So I literally just scored huge today, got a 1980 CB750F for $100 with the title, after the 3 hours it took for us to get it out of this maze of a basement, the price made sense, but now the real fun begins...

I'd like to turn the bike into a café racer (or more that style) I'm 5'7, weigh 135lbs, so there's plenty of bike there for me, it's all about how I use it, what I add etc. I'm just looking for input experience, thoughts etc. What would you do first?

Thanks!

It looks like a great $100!!!

There are a lot of ideas and sources on these two forums:

http://dotheton.com/index.php

http://www.caferacer.net/forums/default.asp

Do The Ton is the friendlier of the two.
It seems on Caferacer, a few folks are "experts" and have no tolerance for ignorance.

I bought my CB200 to Cafe, but I am concentrating on getting my BMW back on the road, first.

Thanks for the links- both very helpful. Good luck with getting the BMW back and running. I still kick myself for getting rid of my R60/2 in a fit of teenage folly.

Peace,

Mara

A couple of quick and free things you could do; ditch the luggage rack and high-rise bars. You can find drag-bars or clubman style bars on ebay pretty cheap. Bar-end mirrors would look nice too.
If you've got the coin, spokes, a flat solo seat & an armadillo style tank would go a long way toward the cafe look.

Just the luggage rack, bars & mirrors will change the look of the bike completely though. That's where I'd start.

i kind of like when the back fender part of the cafe racers are up high and come to a slight point.but first id do the traditional stuff if thats what youre going for.set the handlebars down low,get a single seat, cool gas tank of your choice, etc.i was actually thinking about a caferacer as my next project, but right now im tied up in a 76 cb500t bobber.but for a hundred bucks thats REALLY not bad, especially for the shape of the bike.good luck bro.
